Wendy Anson
PhD, CHSE
Wendy Anson, PhD is an EMMY Award-winning producer, filmmaker, US Patent holder, healthcare researcher, inventor, and writer whose career spans over three decades at the intersection of science, media, and storytelling. She holds a PhD in Educational Psychology and Technology from the University of Southern California (2004), an M.A. in Literature and Critical Theory from UC Irvine (1995), and a B.A. in Literature from UC Berkeley (1972).
Wendy is the inventor of Synapstory — a patented, non-invasive eye-tracking method for detecting PTSD and trauma markers in children, for which she holds a US Patent. As a certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and Accreditation Committee Member for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, she has authored a peer-reviewed chapter in Defining Excellence in Simulation Programs (Wolters Kluwer, 2014) and presented internationally on assessment, tool rating, and competencies in simulation.
As a USC Annenberg Fellow in Scholarly Multimedia and NIH Science Writer, Wendy produced award-winning healthcare education for NIH divisions including OBSSR, NIEHS, and NHLBI — developing national guidelines, research tools, and curricular content for institutions including Kaiser Permanente, USC Medical Center, and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
Her 2008 feature documentary Flashback won the Brain Media Award from the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. As a Segment Producer and Writer/Researcher for KCET Public Television (1988–1993, 261,500+ employees), she produced nationally recognized Subject Matter Expert profiles including Noam Chomsky and Carl Sagan, supervised shooting crews, and served as supervising editor for a prime-time series. Her documentary work includes an independently produced Academy Award-nominated project (Lake of Fire).
Wendy also wrote screenplay Synapstory, a quarterfinalist in the Page International Screenwriting Competition, and holds the Adrian Malone Productions credit for Cosmos with Carl Sagan. She currently divides her time between Jerusalem, Israel and Los Angeles, California, and is at work on her debut novel.
