Flashback — Documentary Film
Brain 2008 Media Award-winning 70-minute documentary on trauma, memory, and dissociation
About This Project
Flashback is a feature-length, 70-minute documentary that explores the neuroscience and lived human experience of trauma and dissociation. The film was awarded the prestigious Brain 2008 Media Award by the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation — recognizing its rare combination of scientific rigor and cinematic depth.
Produced, written, and directed by Wendy Anson, PhD, Flashback weaves together expert interviews, personal narratives, and cutting-edge neuroscience to create an immersive journey into how the brain processes — and sometimes protects itself from — extreme experiences. The film bridges the gap between academic trauma research and accessible, emotionally resonant storytelling.
Wendy's background as a USC Annenberg Fellow, KCET television producer (who interviewed Noam Chomsky and Carl Sagan), and NIH science writer gives the documentary an unusual authority — the filmmaker is simultaneously a researcher, clinician-educator, and narrative artist. Produced through Lion Song Productions, Wendy's multimedia production company dedicated to state-of-the-art best practices in pathways to trauma recovery.
The full film is available for screening by request. Wendy is seeking festival submissions, institutional screenings, distribution partnerships, and collaborators for further projects.
